Lakeside Wedding with Bluegrass & Food Trucks

Kimberly and Gerrit built the wedding venue of their dreams and permanently revitalized a family legacy at the same time. They spent months renovating her grandparent's lakeside cabin, where Kimberly spent all of her childhood summers. Starting with the inside and eventually adding all new landscaping to the back yard, they designed their own ceremony space looking out on the water - and brought a new life to this sweet cottage for their family to enjoy for many years to come. To top it off, their first piece of art for the wall was made on their wedding day: Maggie Smith Kuhn set up her easel behind the guests and painted the scene live!

As part of a courageous goal to focus their wedding planning around a few simple-yet-unconventional priorities, they ditched a typical venue and hosted the reception a few doors down at Pinewood Lake's Historic Theater and Clubhouse (a natural choice, but also a nod to Kim's many theater-loving family members). Most of the decor was DIY - except for Maggie's painting, which was completed and put out on display. Guests enjoyed delicious pizza and banh mi from the food trucks parked outside, live bluegrass, games, and peaceful rides out on a kayak or canoe.

Ultimately their spirit of adventure paid off: Gerrit and Kimberly enjoyed their day just as they wanted it, and will forever enjoy a priceless wedding souvenir: the family lakeside cabin!
