Gothic Wedding at the Green-Wood Cemetery

I’ve been visiting friends in the city for years, and every time I pass an old historic New York cemetery I start daydreaming about finding a reason to photograph there. I never really knew how it would happen, but I knew that somehow I’d get the chance someday. So when Maríssa reached out to us to photograph her wedding ceremony at the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, it felt meant to be. Not only did we get to practice our art in a unique setting full of character, but we got to capture these magical memories for Maríssa and Kyle- two wildly creative and passionate people who had us laughing in stitches the whole day long.

In Marissa’s words: “We really wanted our wedding to be representative of us: goth, pagan, feminist, LGBT, and full of puns while honoring Maríssa's Mexican culture. This meant deviating from a traditional wedding in many ways and incorporating the things we enjoy. We wanted a wedding that was as inclusive as possible and still resembled a Tim Burton film. Our community is important to us and we wanted all of them to feel celebrated alongside us while showcasing the things that were very uniquely us. Maríssa is a theatre maker, so she wanted to rely heavily on her design experience to bring our vision to life. We have a flair for the dark and the whimsical.”

DIY: Origami fortune teller programs, coffin name tags, signage, handfasting cord, wands
